Niño de la bola
Spanish school
XVI century
Round-bodied sculpture
Polychrome carved wood

Dedication of Jesus Christ, the Holy Child, Christ Child or the Child of God.

Remaining faithful in essence to medieval iconography, with the globe of the universe in the left hand while blessing with the right; its style, which appears re-emerged from classicism, with elaborate study of anatomy and counterpose; but with an aesthetic that is faithful to Spanish plasticism: the expression of the spirit, which appears to twist over itself, with a relaxed and inscrutable countenance, leaving all expression to the body.
Height: 51 cm

Current condition: Left arm and two fingers of the right hand lost.
