Damask Pair of Fauteuil

Spain 19th century

$1,900.00

These are a pair of 19th-century Victorian armchairs, designed to accompany the sofa and the set of six chairs, forming part of a parlor suite. Here are the main characteristics:

Frame:Crafted in dark polished wood, mahogany, with intricate carved crests featuring scrolling and floral motifs, very much in the Rococo Revival style popular in the mid-1800s.

Backrest: Each chair has a shield-shaped tufted back, upholstered in the same rose-pink and gold damask fabric as the sofa. The deep button-tufting gives the chairs a luxurious, plush look while also reflecting Victorian craftsmanship.

Arms:The arms are fully upholstered at the tops for comfort, but the carved wooden supports remain visible, flowing seamlessly into the frame.

Seat: Generously cushioned and wide, designed for parlor comfort, with a matching floral damask textile.

Legs: The chairs stand on cabriole legs with scroll and floral carvings on the knees and apron, echoing the sofa’s design and enhancing the sense of a matched set.

These chairs are part of a parlor or salon set, including a sofa, armchairs, and side chairs, used in formal entertaining spaces. They reflect the opulence and refinement of the Victorian era, emphasizing display as much as comfort.
