A fine and complete 19th-century Spanish Rococo Revival parlor suite, executed in richly carved dark hardwood, mahogany, and upholstered in a rose-pink and gold floral damask. The suite consists of one sofa, two armchairs, and six side chairs — an unusually complete survival from the Victorian era.

• The Sofa features a serpentine outline, camelback crest rail with central floral carving, deeply button-tufted back and sides, scrolling arms, and a carved apron, raised on cabriole legs.

• The Armchairs (Pair) each with a shield-shaped tufted back, carved floral crest, upholstered arms, serpentine seat rail, and cabriole legs.

• The Side Chairs (Six) with tufted shield-shaped backs, floral carved crests, cabriole legs, and serpentine aprons, upholstered en suite.

Context & Significance

The suite reflects the Rococo Revival style that swept Europe in the mid-19th century, inspired by 18th-century French Rococo. In Spain, such designs signaled refinement and modernity, serving as the centerpiece of the salón, the formal reception room where social standing was displayed.
